CASE STUDY
How 3D modeling solved design challenges for a U-shaped stair renovation
THE SCOPE
A stair builder near Edmonton, Canada was asked to design and install a new stair in a 2-story custom renovation home. The job progress was stalled pending design approval by the homeowner who was struggling to envision the project.
THE CHALLENGE
The stair builder called us to turn their site measurements into a 3D model. The design needed to allow maximum natural light into the stairwell while preventing a structural clash between stairs and windows.
THE SOLUTION
Within one day, we generated a 3D visualization and proved accurate details locating windows, structure, and stair details. The builder shared our interactive 3D link with the homeowner who viewed it remotely and immediately provided their approval. The job was no longer stalled, and construction resumed.
BONUS
Our model specified the stringer design, stringer material, tread materials, tread support structure, beam support locations, colours, perspective views…and more. Our presentation also contained a set of computer-generated 2D drawings with dimensions and specifications that were written into the construction subcontract.
